1967 - The First Hipster Parents


We look back at Sgt Pepper, the sophisticated lyrics of Leonard Cohen, the protests and the acid, and at times we lose sight of the America that hippies ran away from, the parents over whom the young girls came to the canyon (forgive the proper grammar). Keep in mind that mainstream America was still idealizing (in the truest sense of the word) the family and turning a blind eye to hippiedom. While the sexual revolution was a fixture of the hippie movement, the myth of the Kennedy era would extend into the 70s, the Bradys merely replacing the Cleavers. While there exists a 20/20 hindsight, young American parents in the 60s were nonetheless the first hipster child rearers. Here's an example:
